Methane and n-hexane ignition in a newly developed diaphragmless shock tube

Shock tubes have been routinely used to generate reliable chemical kinetic data for gas-phase chemistry. The conventional diaphragm-rupture mode shock tube operation presents many challenges that may ultimately affect the quality of kinetics data. Numerous diaphragmless concepts developed overcome drawbacks using diaphragms. Most these designs require significant alterations in driver section and, some cases, fail match performance diaphragm-mode operation. In present work, an existing diaphragm-type is retrofitted with a fast-acting valve, and evaluated investigating ignition methane n-hexane. reported here advantages, such as eliminating use diaphragms, avoiding substantial manual effort during experiments, automating facility, having good control over conditions, obtaining repeatability studies. Ignition delay time measurements performed three mixtures two n-hexane at $P_5$ = 10 - 20 bar $T_5$ 738 1537 K. results obtained fuel-rich, fuel-lean, oxygen-rich (undiluted) show very agreement previously experimental literature models (AramcoMech 3.0 [1] Zhang et al. mechanism [2] n-hexane). study easy simple method upgrade opens new possibilities investigations.
